Our Story
Lumera exists because the most compassionate veterinarians in our profession deserve better. Not just better systems or better administrative support; but someone who truly understands their world walking alongside them. That's what Lumera Care Collective is. We are a collective of individuals who chose this work on purpose. We operate with compassion for the incredible veterinarians choosing this path and the families they help.
Meet the Founder
Lumera Care Collective was founded by Rhianne Hallows in early 2026. She not only saw a missing piece for the overwhelmed independent veterinarian but also an opportunity for veterinary technicians to utilize their skills and heart in an evolving industry. Rhianne graduated from Red River College’s Veterinary Technologist program in 2014. She worked in a clinic setting for 7 years before exploring other options in the industry. A commonality with many other veterinary technicians, as the unfortunate career length is only 5-7 years. Finding her own strength in offering compassionate communication she knew there was more. Motivated to empower veterinary technicians to stay in the veterinary field along with her deep appreciation for veterinary hospice & palliative care has guided her to create Lumera Care Collective.
Lumera Care Collective is a labor of love and as it continues to grow, Rhianne stays grateful and hopeful for the future of end-of-life veterinary care.
Rhianne is a member in good standing with the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association as well as the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care and is currently on track to gain her CHPT in 2026.
“Rhianne is the founder and heart of Lumera Care Collective. I truly don’t know what I would do without her. She is so much more than the person who answers the phone or manages the schedule—she is often the very first source of comfort our clients experience, and she carries that responsibility with such grace and heart.
From the moment she connects with a family, you can feel her kindness. She listens deeply, speaks gently, and meets people exactly where they are, whether they are feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, or grieving. In a field where every conversation can carry so much emotion, she has an incredible ability to make people feel safe, supported, and never alone.
She handles scheduling with such care and flexibility, always keeping the needs of both the patient and their family at the center. But what stands out most is how genuinely she cares—checking in, following up, and holding space for clients in a way that goes far beyond what is expected.
She is an essential part of the heart of this practice. Her compassion, dedication, and quiet strength shape the experience we are able to offer every family, and I am endlessly grateful to have her by my side in this work.”
